This is Love Spec, a project born out of nostalgia for my introduction to modified car culture in Australia, and the era that shaped it.

For some, being able to offer you a link to 4DMILK or 4DMILF is all you need to know for this site to make sense.

For everyone else, this might be your first introduction to the term sex spec, and yes, it's about as ridiculous as it sounds.

Earlier this year, a popular YouTube channel Mighty Car Mods released a new series that kicked-off with the purchase of a sex-spec Subaru, license plate "4DMILF". The video concept wasn't new, they'd fixed-up cars of this kind before, but this time the comments section, usually rife with mockery for these sorts of cars, was surprisingly wholesome.

People wrote about dog-eared tuner magazines, about being teenagers discovering a world of neon underglow and body kits and sound systems that could rattle a car apart. They wrote about their dads, their mates, their first cars. It was a generation of enthusiasts quietly reflecting on how they got into all of this in the first place.

That's what this site is here to capture. If you came of age during the Auto Salon sex-spec era, this is for you, with love. Welcome.
